How to obtain your C+E licence

This course is ideal for those who have already obtained their LGV 2 Category C licence, and are looking to upgrade to an LGV 1 artic licence.

If you do not already hold your Category C licence, there are two options that you can choose from to gain your LGV 1 licence. One way in which you can gain your LGV 1 licence is by completing one of our fast-track car to C+E training courses, which will allow you to go from a car licence to an artic.

The next way in which you can gain your C+E licence is by first completing your CAT C driver training and completing your LGV 2 driving test and then moving on to your artic licence once you have gained confidence and experience in driving a rigid-bodied vehicle.

If you want to gain your LGV 2 licence first, we have a variety of CAT C driver training courses for you to choose from, or you can complete one of our car to C+E fast track courses to straight from a car to an artic.

What will the course cover?

This package is ideal for candidates who already hold their Category C HGV licence and are looking to progress towards becoming an artic driver.

If you decide to complete our LGV Gold Package, your course will include 17.5-hours of HGV driver training including DVSA tests. Our highly trained instructors will take you out on the road and show you how to drive safely on the roads, keeping you and other road users safe.

Additionally, you will have LGV 1 pass protection, giving you a second attempt at your test, should you fail the first one.

All of our LGV 1 vehicles are articulated – tractor unit and trailer, as we don’t use wagon and drag vehicle combinations. All of our vehicles have automatic gearboxes, air-conditioning, and comfortable seats meaning that you can drive around in comfort and focus on your lesson.

What certification will you receive?

Completing this course will give you the skills needed to pass your HGV driving test, once you have completed your test, you will obtain your Class 1 HGV driving licence.

Gaining this licence category will allow you to operate any Category C vehicle with a trailer over 750kgs.

There are additional qualifications that you may need to obtain depending on your requirements, including ADR training and HIAB training.

Where can you complete your training?

Our LGV 1 Silver Package is available to complete at all of our training centres, which include depots in Portsmouth, Southampton, Reading, and Worthing.

Each one of our training depots has industry-leading training facilities, such as dedicated reversing areas. This is to ensure you have the best experience possible and to give you the best chance at passing your Class 1 driving test.

How long will the certification last?

Once you have gained your HGV licence, this will be valid up until the age of 45, when you will then need to complete another driver’s medical to ensure you are still fit to drive.

Once you have passed the medical when you reach 45, you will then need to complete one every 5 years up to the age of 65, at which point, you will need to complete a driver’s medical every year.

You will be taught by one of our highly experienced and professional LGV 1 instructors, who are completely dedicated to ensuring you have all the skills, knowledge, and confidence that you need to be successful in passing your LGV 1 driving test. All of our instructors are either NRI qualified or working towards the qualification. We believe in providing the highest quality driver training ensuring our students are fully prepared for a professional driving career.

What are the payment options for this course?

If you are thinking about taking our LGV 1 Gold Package, there are a few payment avenues available as you can pay for the whole cost of the course or we have deposit options available.

You will need to pay the remainder of your balance before you attend one of our centres to complete your LGV 1 training.
