The course is a 1 day refresher course, ideal for candidates who have current certification for a lorry mounted crane (no older than 5 years old), but it is about to expire.  You will cover theory training, practical operations and assessments on both.  Our lorry mounted crane has a remote chest pack, brick grab and hook facilities, allowing us to tailor the course to suit your needs.  Alternatively, we can train at your site using your equipment.

Course Info

2 Start Training is a Category 3 Independent Training Standards Scheme and Register (ITSSAR) accredited training centre for operator and instructor training.

Our accredited Tutors and Instructors are available to deliver training in our own approved centres or can come onto your site, using your own machine and facilities.


Novice Operator: 2 Days

For operators who have never previously operated a lorry mounted crane / HIAB

Experience Operator: 1 Day

For operators who have experience on a lorry mounted crane / HIAB but have no certification or their certificate is over 5 years old.

Refresher & Test: 1 Day

For operators who’s certificate is between 3 & 5 years old.


1 Truck : 3 Candidates : 1 Instructor


To provide the theoretical and practical knowledge to safety operate a lorry loader / HIAB.

Elements covered:

  • Responsibilities under the health & safety at work act, 1974, PUWER 98 & LOLER 98
  • Pre-use checks on a loader and carrier
  • Factors affecting stability and mobility
  • Motive controls
  • Hydraulic controls
  • Operating in open and confined areas

Upon completion:

If not already registered, candidates will be registered onto the ITSSAR TOP scheme (Trainer Operator Passport) and issued with a photo identification card and A4 Certificate.

Facilities required on your site:

A training room suitable for the number of candidates, sufficient practical training space to carry out assessments and testing. Delegates will require PPE as per the company’s internal risk assessments.
