LGV1 Driver Training:

Age:18+

1 Day refesher – Five days training course

Training sessions start at 07:00, 10:30 and 14:00 with a one-to-one instructor-trainee ratio over a 3.5-hour period or a two-to-one instructor-trainee ratio over 7 hours.

This provides the instructor with enough time each day to fully instruct drivers on different test routes and exercises required to pass your test.

We can provide you with the very best facilities including reversing areas on site at our Portsmouth and Reading depots.

Vehicles:

Our LGV 1 Driver Training vehicles are new CF DAFs pulling a 30ft twin axle box trailer.  All of our LGV 1 vehicles are ariculated, tractor unit and trailer. We don’t use wagon and drag vehicle combinations.

These vehicles have automatic gearboxes and all the moden features you would expect to see on todays trucks. This will give you the experience of the type of vehicles you would be expected to drive once you have passed your test.

Application process:

To obtain this licence you must have first taken the lower category C licence LGV 2.

There are no more medicals and theory tests to complete as this would have been done either at the  Category C1 or Category C stage.

If you obtained your category C licence (LGV 2) prior to September 2009 then you are also exempt from the MOD 2 CPC theory test.

Test Criteria:

On your LGV 1 driving test you will be examined on your general driving and on set exercises. The set exercises will include:

  • an ‘S’ shaped reverse into a bay
  • demonstrating the uncoupling and re-coupling procedure if you’re taking a test with a trailer

The drive on the road lasts about 60 minutes and the overall test takes about 90 minutes.  During the driving test the examiner will give you directions which you should follow.  Test routes are designed to be as uniform as possible and will include a range of typical road and traffic conditions.

Training Locations:

LGV 1 Driver Training is available to businesses and individuals across Hampshire, Berkshire, Surry, West Sussex and the Isle of Wight.
