How to obtain your C+E licence

To obtain your C+E licence, you can either complete one of our fast-track car to C+E courses, allowing you to go straight from a car to an artic, or you can first complete your CAT C training and then advance to completing your C+E training.

If you first complete your CAT C training, there are no more medicals, or theory tests to be taken, you simply need to pass your practical driving test.

Students will be assessed on the following areas when undertaking their 3a and 3b driving tests:

Safely driving on the roads

Conducting uncoupling and coupling procedure

Completing a reversing manoeuvre

If you’re interested in gaining your CAT C licence first, we have a wide range of LGV 2 training courses. Alternatively, you can complete one of our Fast Track car to C+E courses that allow you to go from a car to a C+E licence.

What will the course cover?

Our LGV Bronze Package will include 14 hours of HGV driver training, including the 3a and 3b driving tests.

Additional hours can also be added if available.

If you complete this course, you will be taken out on the road by one of our highly trained instructors, who will show you how to keep yourself safe as well as other road users when driving. You will also have time to practice the manoeuvres needed to pass the 3a and 3b driving tests.

All of our LGV 1 vehicles are articulated – tractor unit and trailer, as we don’t use wagon and drag vehicle combinations. All of our vehicles have automatic gearboxes, air-conditioning, and comfortable seats meaning that you can drive around in comfort and focus on your lesson.

what Certification will you receive?

Anyone who completes our LGV 1 Bronze Package and passes their HGV driving test will be awarded their HGV Class 1 licence, allowing you to drive any Category C vehicle with a trailer over 750kgs.

Once you have completed this course and gained your licence, there are additional qualifications that you can add, including completing ADR training and gaining your HIAB licence.

Where can you complete your training?

You can complete our LGV 1 Bronze Package at any of our training depots, including 4 locations in Portsmouth, Southampton, Reading, and Worthing.

Our Portsmouth depot is a DVSA-approved testing site, meaning if you train for your test at this depot, you may be able to take your HGV driving test there too.

Additionally, we have worked hard to ensure that our training facilities are the best available on the market and surpass any other training schools. All of our depots come equipped with dedicated on-site reversing facilities and automatic training vehicles.

How long will the certification last?

Once you have gained your HGV licence, this will be valid until you reach the age of 45, at which point you will need to complete another driver’s medical to ensure you are fit to drive.

You will need to complete a driver’s medical every 5 years from the age of 45 until the age of 65, and from there you will need to complete a medical every year.

As long as you pass your driver’s medical, your licence will remain valid.

Who will be teaching the course?

All of our HGV training instructors are part of the NRI or are working towards gaining this qualification.

You will be taught by one of our highly experienced and professional LGV 1 instructors, who are completely dedicated to ensuring you have all the skills, knowledge, and confidence that you need to be successful in passing your LGV 1 driving test.

What are the payment options for this course?

If you are thinking about taking our LGV 1 Bronze Package, there are a few payment avenues available as you can pay for the whole cost of the course or we have deposit options available.

You will need to pay the remainder of your balance before you attend one of our centres to complete your LGV 1 training.
