Any candidate who is wanting to gain their HGV licence, including anyone working towards their CAT C, C+E, or Fast Track Car to C+E, will need to complete their HGV theory tests. The two tests that you will need to complete include the Multiple-Choice and Hazard Perception theory tests, both of which will be similar to the car theory tests but specific to HGV driving.

Completing this theory revision is beneficial because it is more interactive than using a book and gives you the flexibility to revise when you want to. This app contains the most up-to-date and current information, giving you the best chance at passing your theory the first time asking!

This revision is suitable for anyone wanting to gain their rigid-bodied or articulated lorry licence.

The HGV Theory Tests

The first step to gaining your HGV licence is to pass your HGV theory test, allowing you to progress on to your practical training and test. The HGV theory test is comprised of two separate tests, the Multiple-Choice and Hazard Perception tests.

You need to pass both tests separately to get an overall pass for your HGV theory.

You can complete both tests on the same day if proffered. However, if you prefer to take them separately, you will need to pass them within 2 years of each other from the date of your first pass, otherwise, you will need to pass both tests again.

The PCV Multiple-Choice Test

To be successful, you will need to have answered at least 85 questions correctly out of the 100 questions in total.

Candidates will have 115 minutes to answer all the questions, with this theory training practice questions that are as close as possible to the real thing.

The PCV Hazard Perception Test

The Hazard Perception section of the test consists of 19 video clips that show developing hazards, with 18 of the clips showing 1 developing hazard and one video showcasing 2 developing hazards.

These videos will show everyday scenes and hazards that you will come across as a lorry driver and will test your awareness when on the road.

There are 5 marks available for each developing hazard, with candidates needing to score at least 67 marks out of 100 to be successful.
