Course Requirements
To complete ADR Class 1, You must already have completed ADR Core as a minimum requirement. You will also need to have a valid ADR certificate to complete this training.
Ongoing Requirements
Refresher training for ADR Class 1 explosive materials is necessary every five years. This is to keep you updated and aware of any changes within this period regarding the carriage of explosive materials by road.
Test Requirements
You will need to successfully complete a multiple-choice test. to gain ADR Class 1 entitlement on your ADR licence. You will complete testing on the day of your training. The test is deigned so that you:
- Understand the hazards in the carriage of dangerous goods
- Can take the appropriate steps to reduce the likelihood of an incident happening
- Can take the necessary precautions for safety of yourself, and that of the public and the environment
- Have individual practical experience of the actions they will need to take
Further Training
As Class 1 is a specialist class, further training include upskilling and becoming a Dangerous Goods Safety Advisor (DGSA). You can also complete specialist class 7, radioactive materials if you are looking to transport or handle radioactive products by road.

Who is this course for?
Anyone who is going to be handling, carrying, packing, labelling, or transporting explosive materials will need to complete this course. You must already have completed ADR Core before being completing this course.
You may also need a Heavy Goods Vehicle (HGV) licence if you are going to be transporting class 1 goods. So you may want to obtain your Category C1, C or C+E licence.
