This FLT is primarily for outdoor use only, can be driven over uneven ground and is convenient to transport from one location to another with ease. Forklift Requirements
To train and operate a Truck Mounted Forklift, you must be at least 18 years old. You will also most likely need a Class 2 (Category C) Licence, as you will need to transport the FLT.
Ongoing Requirements
It is advised you should complete refresher training every 3-5 years to keep your Truck Mounted Forklift certification in date. As stated in the ACOP L117 You can complete this training in 1-day. We also offer the experienced operator training if you cannot locate your certification.
Test Requirements
You will complete three tests in total.
- Theory Test.
- Pre-use Inspection Test.
- Practical Skills Test.
Theory Test:
The first is the theory test. You are required to complete 5 open and 20 multiple choice questions. These questions will apply to the industry, and you will have to also consider the working environment when answering them.
A minimum mark of 80% is necessary to pass this test.
Pre-use Inspection test:
The pre-use checks test is designed to evaluate an operator’s ability to correctly asses and check the key components of the truck mounted forklift to ensure the vehicle is safe and fit for use and includes checking the key areas of the forklift listed below.

Practical Skills Test:
The practical test will show your instructor that you have taken on the competencies and are able to implement them when using a Truck Mounted Forklift. This consists of how safely you operate the machine, and penalty points will be given if you complete a task which is deemed unsafe, such as erratic and improper use of the controls.
The practical skills test has a maximum allowance of 40 penalty point within a given time.
You will first show your instructor that you can properly complete the pre-use checks.
Once successfully completed, you will then need to complete the following and show you can do so safely:
- Mount & Dismount onto a trailer
- Mounting, starting and stopping the truck
- Drive both forwards and reverse, including braking
- Steer accurately
- Correctly place a load on the forks
- Use the hydraulic controls correctly
- Show that you can judge the position of fork tips at varying heights
- Stack and de-stack at varying heights safely
- Be cautious of the working environment and judgment of speed, height, width and distance from within the confines of the machine
- Dismount and park the truck
These are all considered critical skills which show safe application methods throughout your test.
Further Training
To keep your certification valid, refresher training is needed every five years. You may want to gain your Category C licence if you need to transport the Truck Mounted Forklift.

This course is perfect for school leavers and over the age of 16 so long as you are not working within a Port, which would require you to be at least 18 years of age.

What can I operate with a truck mounted forklift certification?
Upon gaining the certification for the Truck Mounted Forklift, you can only operate this T group FLT. In order to use any other Forklift truck, you must complete the appropriate training and gain the proper certification for that truck type.
What will you receive upon successful completion of this course?
Once you pass this course, not only will you receive your ITSSAR certification, but you will also obtain a 2 Start certificate of completion. You can also at an additional cost receive an ID card for the Trained Operator Passport Scheme (TOPS).
