3a Off-Road Exercise Test
£40.00
The 3a off-road is a part of your driver training & test, where you must complete an “s” shaped reversing manoeuvre. If you are learning to operate a vehicle with a trailer attachment, then you will also show a coupling & uncoupling procedure. The 3a off-road exercise is taken off the public roads on our DVSA approved 3a testing area by one of our own DVSA approved examiners. Your 3a off-road test will last up to 30 minutes and includes*
- An ‘S’-shaped reverse into a bay
- Showing the uncoupling and recoupling procedure if you’re taking a test with a trailer
*You can carry on if you make a mistake during your driving test. Your driving examiner will only stop your test if they think your driving is a danger to others.

- Completing the 3b on-road driving test

You need to complete the 3b driving test within 6 months of passing your 3a test. If not, then you will have to complete the off-road test again.
Test Requirements
This is one test, where you need to complete an off-road reversing exercise. Consisting of an “S” shaped manoeuvre, you can continue if you make a mistake during the test. However, the examiner will stop you if they believe you are a danger to yourself and others.
If you are training to drive a vehicle with a trailer attachment, then you must also complete a coupling & uncoupling procedure. This is essential to showing that you understand how the vehicle moves, while staying within the cones.
Further Training
Further training will include completing the 3b driving test, which will give you the entitlement for the vehicle you have been training and testing for. If you are planning to drive professionally, you will also need to complete the Module 2 Case study theory test and the Module 4 practical demonstration test.
Who is this course for?

If you’re unsure, you can also call our team on 02392 123 555.
What can I drive with a 3a Off-Road Certificate?
The 3a off-road certificate only shows that you are competent to safely reverse the Heavy Goods Vehicle (HGV) or Passenger Carrying Vehicle (PCV) you are completing training and testing for. After you successfully complete your 3a, you will then need to complete your 3b on road driving test for the vehicle you are completing licence acquisition for.
What will you receive upon successful completion of this course?
You will receive your 3a certificate once passed. Please be aware that this doesn’t mean you can operate a vehicle, you will still need to complete the 3b on road driving test.
