This keeps your skillsets refreshed, which subsequently keeps yourself and your other co-workers safe.

    Test Requirements

You will have two assessments, a theory and a practical test, which also includes pre-use checks.

The theory assessment consists of 5 open ended questions, and 20 multiple-choice questions. You must get 80% in both tests to pass the theory section.

Upon successful completion of your theory-based training, you should have a theoretical understanding on the importance of the following:

After this is the pre-use and practical assessment.

You must meet the minimum requirements relevant to carry out the pre-use checks as per your instructor.

    Finally, is the practical test.

You must complete the following to show you have the skills to operate a dumper truck safely:

    • Access of the vehicle
    • Safe starting and stopping
    • Moving forwards and backwards smoothly including braking
    • Steering accuracy in forward and reverse
    • Accurate use of hydraulic controls

    • Judgement of speed, height, width and distance from within the confines of the machine
    • Correct interpretation of Banksman signalling
    • Correct procedures for parking, securing the vehicle and post stop checks

On successful completion of practical training, you will have demonstrated to a basic operational standard all of the following:

    • 4.1 Pre-shift safety checks and start-up procedures
    • 4.2 The ability to manoeuvre and operate the vehicle correctly within the manufacturer’s recommendations and to the operator’s safety code (both laden and unladen)

    Earning Potential

Depending on experience and other job roles you complete within your employment, a Tipper Driver can see a salary of up to £32,000 annually.

    Who is this course for?

Anyone who is going to be planning the work conducted with a Tipper lorry (including the loading and dumping of raw materials) should complete this form of training. Anyone who is also supervising the work completed should also consider the training, as you will learn the health & safety regulations.

You must be at least 18 years old to complete this course, as per the Lifting Operations & Lifting Equipment Regulations (LOLER).

What can I drive with a Tipper Lorry Certification?

Our Tipper Training course does not permit you with a licence. If you want to drive a Tipper Lorry, you must complete HGV Driver Training. Check the Tipper Truck you want to operate, as the Licence Category can differ.

For example, Tipper lorries can be a Category C1, C or C+E vehicle.

What will you receive upon successful completion of this course?

You will be awarded a 2 Start certificate of completion, showing that you have completed the relevant and appropriate training for the safe and competent use of a Tipper Truck.
