We have a wide range of C+E driver training courses available for you to choose from, all of which will give you the knowledge needed to drive an HGV and gain your class 1 licence.
Our local driver training schools include air-conditioned training rooms, modern and automatic vehicles, which are also regularly maintained, as well as ideal training grounds for you to practice your driving skills in a large articulated vehicle.
All our Class 1 driver training courses are taught by highly experienced instructors, in which many years of experience. Our courses are suitable for different experience, confidence, and ability levels, meaning we will have the ideal course for you!
Training Times
Our Category C+E training sessions start at 07:00, 10:30 or 14:00, with a one-to-one instructor-trainee ratio over a 3.5-hour period. This is where you will cover your practical training elements, and perfect your driving skills for a Class 1 HGV.
Test Criteria
On your LGV 1 driving test, you will be examined on your general driving and set exercises. The set exercises will include:
- An ‘S’ shaped reverse into a bay
- Demonstrating the uncoupling and re-coupling procedure as you’re taking a test with a trailer
During the driving test, the examiner will give you directions that you must follow. Test routes are designed to test you on typical road and traffic conditions you will deal with every day as an HGV driver.

HGV Class 1 training cost UK
The training cost for our HGV Class 1 courses range from £360 for a Category C+E lesson through to our full Gold Fast Track (Car to C+E) package that will cost £4,715 and includes Pass Protection, your MOD 4 and our team booking your medical for you.
However, the cost for your HGV Class 1 driver training here in the UK will depend on what you require your course to cover, along with the number of training hours you require.
We offer an option for you to have a driving assessment with one of our instructors, who can then advise the recommended training hours you will most likely require to be test ready. This approach could help reduce the cost of your course if you feel your experience is sufficient for one of our shorter courses.
Did you know...
Holding a Class C+E licence allows drivers to drive vehicles above 7,500kgs with a trailer (Such as articulated lorries or vehicles with drawbar trailers) The keyword “above” means anything above this weight threshold. Drivers with C+E entitlement are then able to move into a specialised area of haulage known as STGO (Special Types General Order) which allows heavy haulage driving with gross weights up to and including 150,000kgs (150 tonnes)
